Making learning accessible to all is one of Wiley’s biggest priorities, both as a company and as people who are passionate about education. Achieving our mission requires making Wiley’s Knewton Alta online courseware accessible to all learners.
What Makes Knewton Alta Accessible?
|Wiley measures accessibility according to the standards set by the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 AA and Section 508. We follow the born-accessible principle for all new feature/functionality releases and include accessibility requirements in all development efforts including those for content, product functionality, UX and training. Wiley has partnered with TetraLogical, a leader in accessibility consultancy, to evaluate and regularly audit our product’s accessibility. Key Support Features
For blind users or users who have low vision, Knewton Alta courseware is compatible with commonly used third-party screen reader software that can read textual information.
For users who have visual or perceptual disabilities, Knewton Alta courseware is compatible with commonly used third-party screen magnifiers that can improve the visual readability of rendered text and images.
For users who have physical disabilities and prefer to use a keyboard as an alternative to a mouse, Knewton Alta supports keyboard-only usage to visit most links, buttons, and form controls.
For users with hearing disabilities, Knewton Alta provides closed captioning on all instructional videos that serve a pedagogical purpose.
For users who are blind or have visual disabilities, Knewton Alta includes relevant descriptions of icons and non-text-based elements on web pages to aid commonly used third-party screen readers.
For users who have visual or perceptual disabilities, Knewton Alta presents all applicable text and images of text at an appropriate ratio (e.g., 4.5:1 or more) to improve readability for people who have a color vision deficit.
For blind users, Knewton Alta provides accessible alternative text and long descriptions for all static images that serve a pedagogical purpose. For users with visual and hearing disabilities, the courseware provides descriptive transcripts that capture the full pedagogical content in instructional videos that serve a pedagogical purpose.
For users who have mobility impairments, learning disabilities, low vision, blindness, or who are deaf/hearing impaired, Knewton Alta courseware is compatible with commonly used third-party speech recognition software to support voiced keyboard and mouse commands.

If you are an administrator at an Institution and would like to request a copy of our Voluntary Product Accessibility Template (VPAT) and accessibility roadmap, please email us at firstname.lastname@example.org. Wiley makes improvements throughout the year and conducts audits on a yearly basis to reflect our commitment to accessibility. Wiley updates the VPAT and roadmap after each audit.
Users can also request accessibility-related assistance, report accessibility problems, or request product support documentation in an accessible, alternative format (at no additional charge) via Knewton Customer Support.
